Personal therapy
Personal therapy offers you a safe space for you to be able to reflect and take risks in exploring your own world and experiences.
My goal is to support you in a non-judgmental way, from a place of compassion, so you can stay with the discomfort that this process might bring. With my knowledge and experience, I will support you in taking risks and in creating the change and the mindset you need or wish in your life.
Personal growth is not just about creating new things or to bring change; it is also about remembering our truths and what our values are.
In personal therapy I'll aim to support you in exploring not only your early life experiences and relationships, what helped us shape who we are now, but also the 3 main areas that have the greatest impact on quality of life; our mindset, our environment, and our relationships. I will ensure that therapy will always go at a pace that you can manage. Regular reviews and monitoring the therapy progress will help us to recalibrate to ensure that you get what you need from therapy.

Art Psychotherapy
Art Therapy is a powerful and flexible psychotherapy, which can use art and art-making as part of the therapeutic process. I can be done in person (face-to-face art therapy) and online art therapy, through a video or voice only calls or through instant text or email. In all formats, we use art to facilitate expression, reflection, exploration and interactions within the therapeutic context.
In the UK, Art Psychotherapy is taught at a master's level (MA). Art Psychotherapist is a professional title protected by law and is statutory registered and regulated by Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC).

Images can ‘talk’, helping you to see things in different ways or even help you to see things in a way you haven’t seen before.
The artwork also keeps a record of your progress throughout therapy. At any time, you can go back to see, reflect upon or continue work done in previous sessions.

Art can be fun and therapeutic itself but when facilitated and in the presence of a skilled psychotherapist, it can also help you to reflect and convey your thoughts, feelings and heal.
This can be particularly helpful when words alone cannot express all; for instance, when working with children or adults to process and recover from trauma.

Art psychotherapy does not depend on words alone and it can be helpful to anyone who may find difficulty in expressing themselves verbally.
An image can tell a lot better, and in a lot more detail, what could take a long time and be complicated to say in words.
An image can often reveal the complexity of parts and help to link and integrate the many facets of the self. I often hear from my clients how much they were able to share using art making. It can be quite powerful to see the images made and see different parts of self or of their lives all together in one piece of paper. This allows the client to step back and observe, seeing the 'whole picture', from where they can start to process, organise and change.

Art therapy is not about art, it is about the creative process and expression. You don't have to be good at art and there is no expectation to use art all the time either. Sometimes, a picture can be painted by using metaphor, symbolic play or storytelling. You can also use other people's work to illustrate or work from what really resonates with you.
Art Therapy Derby offers both face-to-face and online art therapy; using voice or video calls, but also through instant messaging or emails. And across all platforms, you can use art, art making and creativity as part of the therapeutic process.
